Adebayor - Chelsea win shows our character
If proof were needed of the character in Arsenal's squad, Emmanuel Adebayor feels that Sunday's game at Stamford Bridge provided it.
The Togo striker set up the winning goal for Robin van Persie as Arsène Wenger's side bounced back from a half-time deficit to beat Chelsea 2-1 and keep their title hopes alive.
Some had questioned Arsenal's unity ahead of the London derby following two successive Premier League defeats and a change of captaincy. Adebayor believes those critics have been proved wrong.
"It was a very good win," he said. "We needed character and we went through a very difficult moment and people wrote us off in the Premier League but the message we have sent out is that we have a good team.
"We have always been together and we have forgotten what happened before. We always believe that we can do something and that is what we tried to show today."
A defeat at Chelsea would have left Arsenal 13 points adrift of their London rivals, a gap that Wenger described as "too much". Whatever the result, Adebayor would not have given up hope.
"If we had lost we would have never said the title race was over for us," he said. "We had to keep on going until the end of the season. We know we have a great team and a great squad and we are ready for it.
"Winning [at Chelsea] means everybody can say we are keeping our title dreams alive but the main thing is to keep going. Maybe we have a little bit more concentration for the big teams and that is something we are going to work on very hard. We all believe in the boss. He is here to help us and we are here to help the fans.
"These are the things we are going to discuss in the dressing room so we can do better against the lower teams."
