Wenger - European league may still go ahead

Arsène Wenger believes that the disbandment of G-14 has not ended the prospect of a European super league.
The group, which consisted of 18 leading European clubs, had explored the idea of establishing an exclusive league but was dissolved on Friday following talks with Fifa and Uefa.
At first glance that may suggest that a revamp of the Champions League into a European super league is less likely. But Wenger, speaking before the weekend, believes that a new competition could still be introduced under Uefa's jurisdiction.
"It [the disbandment of G-14] is the death of a European super league under the banner of the clubs," said Wenger.
"It might still go ahead because the clubs all agreed not to have any civil court and only accept the arbitration of Uefa and Fifa. That is the agreement which has been signed.
"Nothing can de decided by a civil court. Also, they will not organise any competition that is not under the jurisdiction of Uefa or Fifa. The European super league will happen [under the Uefa banner]."
