Wenger - We must remain calm and determined

Barclays Premier League
Wigan Athletic 0-0 Arsenal

Arsène Wenger has called on his side to remain calm during their current "unlucky patch".

Sunday's stalemate at Wigan was Arsenal's third Premier League draw on a row. Their lead at the top is now two points and Manchester United have a game in hand.

"It is tighter than ever," admitted Wenger afterwards. "We dropped two points today and we are going through a patch at the moment, we are a bit unlucky I feel. But the team is still focused. We want to remain calm and determined then we'll have a very good chance to do it."

Certainly the visitors deserved all three points at the JJB Stadium, as they had at Birmingham City at fortnight ago. Wenger believes it is difficult to face relegation-threatened sides at this stage of the season.

"When you fight against teams who fight not to go down - like we did at Birmingham - they never give up," he said.

"If you do not make a difference early on then you are always under threat because if that happens the more their belief and determination grows during the game."
