Song called up for African Cup of Nations

Alex Song has been called up to Cameroon's squad for the African Cup of Nations.

The 20-year-old is uncapped at international level but has forced his way into the Indomitable Lions' set-up for the tournament which takes place in Ghana from January 20 to February 10. Cameroon have been crowned African champions four times and will be favourites to win a group which also contains Egypt, Sudan and Zambia.

Song has made 10 appearances for Arsenal this season, earning plaudits for his displays in central defence during the Club's run to the Carling Cup Semi-Finals. He set up Eduardo's extra-time winner when the young Gunners beat Blackburn at Ewood Park last month.

Song is one of three Arsenal players on duty at the African Cup of Nations - Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue have both been named in the Ivory Coast's squad. The trio could miss as many as eight Arsenal fixtures, depending on how far their countries advance in Ghana and how well the Gunners fare in domestic cup competitions.
