Wenger - Ramsey faces fierce competition at Arsenal

While Aaron Ramsey is definitely in Arsène Wenger’s plans for the coming season, the manager has warned his new signing that competition will be fierce.

The 17-year-old Welshman made his Arsenal debut on Saturday at Barnet and may feature again tonight in the friendly at Szombathelyi.

Wenger fought off competition from other top clubs to sign Ramsey from Cardiff but despite his glowing reputation the Frenchman says his protégée will be judged solely on his displays.

“He is in my plans,” said Wenger. “But like all the other players, it depends on their performances and quality. You could see [at Barnet] that some young players will be very close to the first team.

“The boy chose us because, as a young player, he thought he had a good opportunity to play. He will get an opportunity when he is judged to be ready. But he knows there is a lot of competition.”
