Almunia - Maintaining home form will be vital

Barclays Premier League
Arsenal v Aston Villa

Manuel Almunia believes that Arsenal’s home form will be vital if their title charge is to stay on track.

The Gunners have dropped just four points at Emirates Stadium this season and the Spanish shot-stopper insists that those home comforts could help Arsenal wrestle the title away from Manchester United.

Both sides have five home games remaining, with the Premier League clash between the two being staged at Old Trafford on April 13. Almunia is not worried about the challenges which lie ahead.

“We of course have respect for every team and we don’t care who we play against,” he said. “It is just important to get three points regardless of who is in front of us.

“All the games we have at home must be won. Here we are so strong and that is what can help us win the title.

“What must not happen again is what happened in the League here against Birmingham where we dropped two points.”

Of course Arsenal want to win every game between now and the end of the season - a target Almunia insists is perfectly attainable.

“Our physical fitness is good and I think we are a young team that has everybody is in good shape,” he continued. “Mentally these young people have a lot of fantasy in their head and show that on the pitch.

“We have a good feeling in the dressing room and outside of football. That is the secret, the focus that we all have on what we want to do. That is what it is all about.”
