Three face fitness tests for Villarreal trip

Arsène Wenger is hoping to have Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri back for the trip to Villarreal on Tuesday.

The Dutch striker (groin) and French midfielder (flu) will undergo fitness tests after Monday morning training but, when he spoke to the media before the session, the manager sounded optimistic that both would return. Theo Walcott also faces as examination on the knee he hurt in Saturday’s win over Manchester City but he is expected to board the plane to Spain for the Champions League Quarter-Final first leg.

“Robin van Persie will make a test this morning,” said Wenger. “He had an encouraging test yesterday but now we have to push him into more sprints and resistance work with opponents to see if he has a set-back. He is a 50:50.

“Samir Nasri will test but he looks positive because he had a good test on Sunday. If he has no set-back he will travel.

“Theo Walcott should be alright. He has a test as well this morning but we are not worried for him.

“The only two who will certainly not travel are Abou Diaby (thigh) and Eduardo (groin).”
